Web Development

Skills and Qualifications  -   Web Development

Web Development is a great interest of mine and something I enjoy doing a lot.

I first learnt HTML shortly after I got internet at home back in 1999 and used to make numerous sites just for fun, but didn't really get serious with it until 2003-2004. I spent time learning HTML and eventually moved on to such more advanced technologies as JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.

At University I was lucky enough to take part in a year long project where we got to create from scratch a content management system for a local scout group. This greatly helped me to improve my web development skills and ever since then I have wanted to learn more about web development.

I'm a supporter of the valid XHTML and CSS projects (a recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)). I try to make all my projects valid in XHTML 1.1 and try to keep all pages valid in CSS as well. I'm hoping that one day, the majority of websites will be in a XHTML or similar format as it really does help keep the internet a lot cleaner and does a lot towards helping cross-browser compatibility.
